Hingham Playgroup

Information

Join our Committee

As a charitable organisation we are run by a volunteer committee made up of parents/carers whose children attend the group. There are lots of reasons to become involved in your child’s playgroup. The most important reason being that your playgroup would not be able to run without a committee. Of course, it’s also a chance to really make a difference and have the opportunity to gain new skills or brush up on some old ones you may have forgotten you had! Find out more.

Uniform/spare clothes

There is no uniform, however parents are able to purchase a playgroup jumper or t-shirt if they wish. You can order direct from schooltrends.

We plan to offer messy activities every day e.g. sand, water, paint; so every child needs to bring in a named bag with a change of clothes so we can change them if they get wet or messy.

Government funding

We accept the 15 hour and the extended 30 hours government funding for children the term after their third birthday, giving each child the opportunity to attend, subject to availability. We also accept two year old funding. Funding can also be split between registered providers.

Toys/comforters

we are happy for children to bring in ‘comfort’ toys to help them settle into playgroup. Once children are settled we like to encourage these comfort toys to be left in bags or trays, so that they are there if required. We ask, where possible, for you to try and discourage your child from bringing toys into playgroup that are not particular ‘comfort toys’. This is because these toys tend to get lost, broken or played with by other children causing distress. In the event of toys being brought in we encourage children to leave them in their trays.

Your child's progress

Staff are always happy to chat with you about your child’s progress. Every child has a learning story at playgroup in which we record observations and photos of children’s learning and development. We send these folders home to you every holiday period (except the summer holidays) and you are able to take them home whenever you wish outside the holiday periods. During the summer term we send out progress reports for those children not moving to school and a transitional report for those children going to school.

Snacks

Please bring in a piece of fruit or veg daily for snack time. Some other ideas for appropriate donations are bread, crackers, raisins, tinned sweetcorn, breadsticks, cheese, tinned pineapple, etc. Please be aware we are a nut-free zone and cannot accept any products with nut ingredients. This also applies to packed lunches if your child stays to eat with us.
